Welcome to our home!

There's never been a better outreach than to ask your neighbors into your home. In this section, we will provide all the resources needed to host your own Friday evening Shabbat Candle Lighting (SCL) in your own home.

The Lighter Side...

Shabbat Candle Lighting

How To...

Invite Friends Over

Officially, Shabbat Candle-lighting is supposed to take place 18 minutes before sundown on Friday evening.

  • Requirements: candle, challah bread, wine (and/or juice)

It's as easy as 1, 2, 3...

1. Preferably have a matriarch (or could be anyone), light a single candle for everyone or one per family member, cover their own eyes with flat hands, fingers pointing up, and say…

Barukh attah Adonai, Eloheinu melekh ha-olam, asher kideshanu bemitzvotav ve-tsivanu Leh' had-lick nair shell Shabbot Ko’desh.

Blessed are You, Lord our G d, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the light of the holy Shabbat.

  • It’s good to then say a short prayer for your company and your home.

2. The next person holds up a cup of wine (juice), and says…

Barukh attah Adonai, Eloheinu melekh ha-olam, Borei p’ri hagafen.

Blessed are You, Lord our G d, King of the universe, Who brought forth the fruit of the vine.

  • It’s good to then say a short prayer thanking G-d for the blood of the lamb and what the wine represents to you.

3. The last person breaks a small portion of bread and says…

Barukh attah Adonai, Eloheinu melekh ha-olam, Hamotzi lechem min haaretz.

Blessed are You, Lord our G d, King of the universe, Who brings forth bread from the earth.

  • It’s certainly good for them to then prayerfully reflect on Yeshua’s physical sacrifice in their own words.

After this, enjoy a dinner with friends, or just snacks and a group scripture reading! Unplug from the world and plug into G-d once a week for 24 hours – you’ll be glad you did.
